glossary
Blended-learning:
Learning tool that combines e-learning content, virtual classes and traditional presential learning.
Digital language labs:
Sound tracks are now digitized and recorded in standard audio formats (.wav, .mp3, etc). Computers permit the simultaneous use of video and text; learners can record the audio commentary of a film or transcribe its content in writing.
e-learning:
Distance learning thanks to multimedia educational resources. Enables you to implement synchronous learning tools (ex: chatrooms enable teachers/students to communicate simultaneously with each other from a distance) or asynchronous learning tools (forums, e-mails, tutors can reply to learner requests a posteriori).
Industrialization of e-learning tool production:
Corresponds to the procedures and industrial techniques as applied to the specificities of e-learning. The goal is to reduce the amount of time required for the design, production and re-production (updating) processes.
LCMS:
Learning content management system: Learning content design and delivery software.
LMS Platform:
learning management system platform.
Mobile classroom:
Digital trolley equipped with laptop PCs and a wireless Internet connection (Wi-Fi) that can be easily transported from one class to another.
Presential learning:
Face-to-face teacher/student learning. Courses given by teachers in a classroom.
Rapid learning:
Online learning produced by the transposing traditional content. The most common form is the conversion of a powerpoint into Flash enriched with sounds and quizzes. Rapid learning does not require learning content re-engineering.
Tutoring Resource Centre:
Classroom learning, enabling you to bring together learners of different levels and with different objectives.
Virtual classroom:
Direct learning between teachers and learners that geographically may be located several thousand kilometers apart. The traditional learning tools are replaced with video-conferences, audio-conferences and whiteboards.
